Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Has something been removed from the soy silk that made it soft and drapey? Is there something I can do to remedy this? I had intended to knit a beaded scarf out of the yarn, but I can't imagine putting something this scratchy around my neck!
HI!
To me, it sounds like the soy silk got "fried" during the first dyeing process. If I remember correctly one cannot bring soy silk to near boiling temps otherwise it melts. You mentioned that the original dyed color got completely stripped out by washing it with soap, and that to me is another sign of a bad dye job. I have seem this before in wool that got fried while being dyed. It feels brittle, breaks easily, and is very scratchy. Is there a chance you could speak to the person/company that sold you this skein and ask for a refund or exchange?
