We're about to start selling at the farmers market, and I'm wondering how to price my handwoven cotton dish towels. They are in an 8 shaft plaited twill, different colors of 8/2 or 10/2 cotton on bleached white 8/2 warp. Finished size (hand-hemmed) will be about 16" x 24".
I understand the farmers market concept and saw your reply message to Robyn. My take on it is from a slightly different angle.......
What is the overall cost for you - from the thread price - through to the labour?
Will the end client know what it is all about 8shaft/plaited twill or even care?
Are these very different from something they call buy at a chain store? a design store? a ???store
Try a trial......put at the highest price you can go.......you can always come down or remove from sale.
And if there seemed to be initial 'oh this is nice but.......do you have them with xyz or in abc" could you start doing it. Or could you do something that equates to farmers style say x-stitch carrots on the borders.......or something else that put your towels into a different bracket all together.
Probably not what you wanted to know but in the end if you are having to sell them at under the initial costs then it's not worth the time and effort.
