How far back, historically, do most articles go?

I crave fiber history dating back to the Viking Era - 800-1000 CE.

I just recently bought Beth Abbott's "The Icelandic Fleece" and while I knew,
right up front, that it wouldn't have that much history - I was still surprised
by the depth of my 'itch' for it. I kept thinking "tell me more".

Not to disparage an otherwise great book! It's my 'itch' and clearly wasn't part
of the author's agenda.

It's a hard thing sometimes, blending the historical needs with the re-creating
"want to just _do_" needs.

The more sources the better...
