What's happened while I've been away? Seems there's no posts at
all, is everyone just busy with summer things?
At the studio:
I've knit my first project: a sock. And it actually fits and look
pretty good! I'm now working on the second one. I used an 80% alpaca
20% merino yarn from our animals (spun at Yolo Wool Mill). I used the
same yarn to weave a blanket. I also wove a tote bag (double weave
technique) from leftover bits of my handspun yarn.
At the farm/parents house:
Pouring concrete slabs for new sheds before winter hits. Painting
fences. Seal/glossed the exposed aggregate driveway. For the first
time ever, I took sheep to the auction. The aquarium filter backfired
on us and siphoned water out of the tank and onto the carpet. So, the
carpet got torn out. We decided to refinish the old and add new
hardwood flooring rather than replace with new carpet. When we lifted
the existing hardwood floor boards, we found problems with the
sub-floor, so had to rip it out down to the joists to rebuild the
sub-floor.
At my house:
Finally, after 6 months, the electrician came back to fix three of his
mistakes with the wiring in the kitchen. But, has now messed up the
recessed lights, attic/gable fan and electrical outlet in the family
room. We also just added two new tube skylights and had the torch-down
roof over the studio recoated with elastomeric.
And... all this while still chasing 3 little kids. Oh! And, I've now
developed an allergy to bee stings. (My last bee sting was probably 12
years ago and no big deal.) I got stung by a yellow-jacket. My whole
arm felt tingly and the sting area felt like it was burning. I took
some Benedryl and then my chest and throat started feeling tight. I
wasn't worried about me... I was worried about whether or not I should
breastfeed the baby. So, I called the advice nurse who wanted me to
head straight for the ER. And get someone else to drive me and if I
couldn't breathe on the way, pull over and call 9-1-1. And the ER, of
course, is 45 minutes in the opposite direction of where my husband
works and it would take him an hour to get home. And neither my mom or
my sister were home. So, I didn't go. I figured that if it got bad
enough I'd call 9-1-1. And I told my 4 year old that if mommy fell
asleep, then she could call 9-1-1. She was all excited about that.
But, now I have to make an appointment with my doctor to get the
self-injection. Great. I have time for this! (By the way... for any
nursing moms out there... it IS safe to nurse the baby.)
