I used fresh leaves that had not turned. I am an
inexperienced natural dyer, and I figured that fresh
has more goodies in it (which may be all wrong - does
anyone know?). Hard to tell the proportions because I
didn't weigh, but I think it was about equal leaves
and wool, no more than a quarter of the wool's weight
for the alum.

I boiled the leaves first to see if the water would
change color, let it sit for a couple of days. Then I
added wool, a tiny bit of liquid soap, and the alum
and let the mix heat up. Cooked for an hour or two,
let sit overnight.

Sorry for the sloppy technique, but that's the only
way anything gets dyed around here.
