Like most meat breed wools, the Oxford wool is pretty springy and
should be great for socks. Sparkle has a pretty fair crimp in her fleece
and the density is great. Since this breed is raised for its meat, not
wool, the wool was never a focus of selection. ... > be aware that they
could care less about the wool. They are much more concerned with the
body under the wool.
I know what you're talking about.
In fact, some Suffolk wool can also be lovely and springy, and would
make good sock yarn as well (can you tell I'm a sock knitter? <G>), but
few Suffolk raisers care a bit about the wool. Of course, with
wool-pool prices as scandalously low as they are, one can hardly blame them.
