I made a dryer for my socks by unscrewing the hook of a wooden dress
hanger and screwing it back in on the other side, so that the arms point
up and the socks don't slip off.  It was also necessary to round the
corners with a wood rasp.

This requires a separate hanger for each pair of socks, but I seldom
wash more than one pair at a time, so two suffice.

These hangers also serve for drying gloves and mittens.
