Reminds me of a time, years ago, when I went to a "spinner's night." A woman came with her good old Ashford Traditional that she had acquired a year ago. She had been taking some textile class at the university and her final exam project was to design, hand-spin, weave, and sew her own curtains for her house. I was impressed. Way too much work for me!!

Since I was there with my Traditional, she commented on how fast and seemingly easy my spinning was. I could see her fighting her wheel. I asked when the last time that she oiled it was. Her response, "You have to oil it?" A few drips from my oil can had that wheel singing and her effortlessly spinning. You could see the joy return to her.

Are you sure you have the flyer properly in place? Perhaps you could clean
and lubricate the flyer bearings. sometimes I take off the treadle
attachment to the wheel and oil that and the wheel bearing. Everything
should be smooth and quiet. If it is hard to treadle something is binding
and you should try to find it.
