He's worked with a simple card loom I made and seemed to do really well. So, I thought of getting him a simple loom to work with. Is this a good idea? What would you recommmend for a very beginner?
May I suggest that you get him something a little more than the very simplest loom? Because if you got a table loom that does more than he really needs, he can still do simple weaving on it, but he won't outgrow it too soon.
The thing is, you can do simple weaving on a non-simple loom, but the reverse is not necessarily true. And, IMO, it's a good idea to get a tool that can make something useful - at least enough width for a full-size scarf, for example.
I got a toy 'real loom' for my DGD, and she used it for a while, but couldn't really make anything useful, so it soon became boring. (How many 'barbie' blankets can one really use, after all.)
