A friend of mine had two ram lambs butchered without asking first
what she should do with the hides. So, she "let them cool off" and
then rolled them up and stuck them in the freezer.
Is it too late to use them? My initial response would be to pull
them out of the freezer, unroll them - stiff as they may be from
being frozen - and salt them. But, if they dried a bit while
"cooling off", is salting going to be pointless? Would rewetting
the hide and then salting do any good?
In my experience, if the hides are not salted immediately after
coming off the carcass, they will lose wool, and are not worth
fooling with.
