try? >>
I'll share mine if you share yours :)
I had lots of large project ideas, but they always depend on a nice,
snowy winter, which we haven't had for a couple years now. When there's
not enough snow to keep me house-bound, I don't do as much fiber. We
are in our 10th winter here (northern lower MI), and this is the first
without an atom of snow on the ground for Christmas and New Year's.
Last year we had snow at Christmas, but it disappeared early in January
due to RAIN, which we're getting as I type. I NEED SNOW!!!! It
reflects light into the house, making the gray days a little less
depressing. Oh, well, I have my full spectrum light to spin under, at
least!
Anyway, goal number 1 is getting the AVL going. I've been collecting
toilet paper rolls to wind balls of 8/2 cotton on, to sectionally warp
48 ends at a time, 25 yards long. I've adjusted the dobby according to
the instructions. I'm still trying to figure out how the tieing-on
works--it appears the cloth isn't actually attached to the cloth beam,
and I don't know whether to think my brain really is going, or that I
actually understood what I'm reading! I'm also trying to figure out a
weave structure that will let me really play with the dobby while still
producing saleable dish towels.
Goal #2 was to worsted-spin some wool finer than I normally do and use
it for weaving some shirt yardage for DH. Big goal for me, as I don't
usually spin worsted, so it's kind of slow. But it's something I really
want to do before I die, so eventually it will get done :)
Other than that, would like to weave yardage for a woven sweater or coat
for myself. I have some lovely Australian and NZ fleeces stashed for
just that purpose.
On the knitting front, still working on the Fair Isle sweater coat.
It's way too big around, so I'm debating ripping it all out to start
over (but have hundreds of hours invested in it, not to mention the
damage to the yarn), or finish the body tube and cut a section out of
the front when I cut the front open--but that will destroy the
arrangement of panels, so it doesn't much appeal either. I can't be
sure it's TOO much too big until I cut up the front, which would
preclude using the yarn for much else if I decide it's too too big.
Sheesh. And I DID do a gauge swatch, a biggesh one--a bottle
carrier--and also allowed for the fact that my gauge always loosens when
I get going, but I didn't allow for enough <sigh>
Various small projects, including a couple of angora wimples, one of
which is for me, but will probably never be warm if this ridiculous
weather keeps going.
And really need to do massive overhauls of studio and farm sites. If
anyone has suggestions for tutorials for the studio, give me a holler.
If I know enough about the topic (or you know enough and want to do one
for me--credit and copyright to you, but I can't pay anything :), then
I'll put some more on. I have lots of ideas, but little time to focus
on it in the gardening/putting up food seasons.
