I have two gelded boy alpacas.  Financially this is the way to go as breeding 
animals are very, very pricey.  Don't fall for the TV ads.  You need to be a 
millionaire (and I am not kidding) to get into the breeding aspect before 
seeing any return there.  But non-show/breeding quality males are not that 
expensive.
   
  Mine are a hoot - they play games with me and are very entertaining.  
Yesterday I was trying to get the old hay out of their pen in anticipation of 
shearing and they would sneak up close then when I threw out an armload make a 
great production of leaping straight up and taking off only to come back to 
repeat the process.
   
  I live in northern Wyoming and the grass quality is not an issue.  Mine is 
terrible and they are thriving.  Remember they come from an area where prime 
pasture does not exist.
