Not necessarily true, John. I believe that in Scandinavia the reed is regularly used as a raddle and the picture of the trapeze made in Finland???? shows the warp passing through the reed. I have both 4 and 8 dent reeds that I regularly use as raddles. Perhaps Suzanne can enlighten us. Brucie In northern WY where we just had a huge snow storm a couple of days ago. Ron can relate.
