When weaving or knitting with singles I always pre wash and weight the
yarn, while it drys, befote using it. I have had very little shrinag.
The extra work and time delay is worth it, as I have had no un happy
surprizes.
I have woven a double weave rug but only in cotton, works fine! Also
do a lot of handbags that way. Just claosed at both ends so it makes a
seamless bag with just the top edge to bind. There is no hassel to this
as it can be done on a straight twill threading and is just a matter of
the correct treadling sequence.
