I raise purebred karakul sheep and the reason there aren't a lot around is
because the fur trade never took off in this country, so the karakuls
imported for the fur trade became a rare breed here in the US. Most of the
folks I know who raise karakuls use the wool for felting or rugmaking.  It's
definitely not a wool that you are going to want to spin and then wear up
against your body. In fact the only reason I could see for spinning it would
be for yarn to use in a loom for rugmaking. That said, lamb fleeces are
generally pretty soft, but they coarsen as the animal ages.  If the OP wants
to contact me privately, I can put you in touch with a couple of folks who
breed karakuls and use their wool for various things. They could probably
answer your questions regarding removing the hair. As far as I know, the
fleeces are used as is.
