Ooops, correction! I had tested this poorly.

It turns out that the DIR_MNTSTATUS_TRIGGER flag is apparently only set
when a mount point is currently looking to re-mount an auto-mounted share,
meaning that this is indeed the solution to my problem: This flag lets me
know whether automountd is waiting for a once-mounted NFS share to become
accessible again. Unless, of course, I am still wrong. Time and testing
will tell...
