Move the folder "System Folder" > "Eudora Folder" from the old
machine into the "System Folder" of the new machine replacing the
"Eudora Folder" that the 5.1 install created. This has always worked
for me when switching computers. This not only transfers your
mailboxes but retains all of your options for multiple
accounts/personalities and retains your passwords, filters and other
preferences.

If you have any essential data (new mail you want to keep) in your v.
5.1 mailboxes, move them out onto the desktop first. (This would also
be a _very_ good time to rename them to save confusion later.) After
you have put your old "Eudora Folder" in the "System Folder" of your
new computer you can then open the mailboxes on the desktop by
launching Eudora and going to File > Open. Drag the messages you want
to keep out of the v. 5.1 mailboxes and into your permanent
mailboxes, and then delete the mailboxes on the desktop. You should
do this under Window > Mailboxes > "select the mailbox you want to
delete and then click the tray icon at the bottom of the window that
has an X on it" > Both > Remove, rather than in the Finder, so that
Eudora deletes its aliases and knows that it should no longer search
for the v. 5.1 mailboxes -- just don't get your permanent mailboxes
confused with the ones you just transferred files out of....

n.b.: This advice is for OS 9.x and earlier. If you have installed
Eudora under OS X it may have placed the (mailbox containing) "Eudora
Folder" in some other location. The fix should be the same, but may
require you to search for the "Eudora Folder" that contains your
mailboxes and settings. (It'll probably be somewhere under the
directory for the user name you were logged on with when you did the
install.)

Best wishes,

-=-Dennis

p.s.: I convinced my father to get one of the new iMacs and he
received it last week. The pictures _do_not_ do them justice. It's
one of the most elegant machines I've ever used and the screen is
beautiful -- sharp, clear and bright with excellent color and no edge
distortion. Being able to micro-adjust the exact angle and placement
of the screen at the touch of a finger has to be experienced to be
believed.
