Sorry, Edward, I did not mean to offend you. I must have misread your post about Igor. What I would advice you to do is this: If you can, buy a copy of either Finale or Sibelius (which one is a difficult question to answer, it's definitely worth researching this well) and start working with it (eg by copying some existing publications, or pages thereof, changing settings and making it look like the (well-engraved) original. You'll learn a lot about certain engraving conventions (there are also a several books available). Look carefully at how beams and slurs are drawn, use this list as a resource. If your choice is Finale you may want to have a look at my Tutorial page, see my sig.
