[Johannes Gebauer:]

>Sorry, Edward, I did not mean to offend you.

That's okay. I wasn't really offended, but felt a need to clarify what I
said (or intended to say). And thanks for your advice about engraving.

>PS I think Philip was refering to your quoting style, which as far as I am
>concerned is fine, but it is not necessarily standard.

Well, I don't see how it's not standard. I've seen a variety of styles. I
put the writer's name at the top, and sometimes the greater-than signs appear in
the left margin of the quoted text, and sometimes they don't. I leave them
there if they do; I sometimes tidy up uneven lines if that can be done easily; I
don't change the text, and use ellipses to indicated omitted words. I always
try to set my own text clearly apart from the quoted material, and I trim the
quoted material appropriately.
All quite approved-of style, as far as I'm aware. So what's the gripe?
If I'm still doing something wrong, and someone *still* finds fault with
it, and is annoyed enough to belittle me for it, I think that's petty, and
suggest they get a life. A person who is upset when everyone else doesn't
always follow the style they approve of is bound to have a life of continual
frustration. But if it *really* upsets them, please explain what the problem
is, and ask me to do something differently, instead of just denigrating me. I'm
a reasonable person who wants to get on with people.

                         Regards,
                          Michael Edwards.
