Are they really tied (as in, using the Speedy Entry tool you hit the = 
key while the cursor is on the first note), or did you enter a 
smart-shape slur to make it LOOK like a tie?  The smart-shapes don't 
have any playback effect, but entering it as a real tie should give you 
one long note without separate attack for the second note.
