Finale on the PC will open a file without an extension -- the problem is
that it won't show up in the Finale Open File dialogue unless you select
Show All Files. But once you can see it in the window, Finale isn't
looking for extensions to know if it is a valid Finale file, it is
looking for header information within the file itself.

AOL will not allow finale files to pass through. I don't know what Coda
Music did to anger AOL, but this is a common thread that comes through
this list several times a year.

Have your friend zip it up using Stuff-it (it does .sit files, but I
believe the newer versions also handle zip files as well) and as has
been suggested you can download the free Expander from Aladdin's
web-site and unzip it on your computer.
