hello mr. lew, mmm... check boulez's 'le marteau sans maitre'. there are some fractional time signatures there, and *some* of them can't be written differently. and consider this simple example:
a 2/4 measure full of semiquavers then two quavers of a triplet (=2/3 of a crotchet), then, in a new 2/4 measure, four semiquavers (=1 crotchet) etc etc. and easy to conduct or play, just think subdividing in three the last beat of the first 2/4 measure, then mark the 2/3 in two beats and again go back to 2/4. actually, it's not difficult, it just *looks* odd. hope this helps, thanks to you and mr. williamsson for the advice and tip! best regards, marcelo > Perhaps I'm a narrow-minded reactionary, but I don't really comprehend how > such a time signature would work.
