I figure many Finale users may also be ProTools users, so I want to warn
you about what I've discovered. I recently purchased the 5.1.1 upgrade
and was horrified to discover that apparently it can only bounce a mix
to disk in real time.

The good (and somewhat surprising) news is that the Digidesign website
is misleading (at best) about older versions. My 4.3 version seems to be
running fine on my new G4. I did have to revert to the DAE and
extensions that came with 4.3. Access to a USB diskette drive is also
required to authorize the hard disk.

So compare these numbers. A five minute stereo mix takes 5 minutes to
bounce in 5.1.1. In 4.3 on my new machine it takes about 30 seconds.
That's a 10-fold increase in speed. As a bonus, 4.3 has a footprint of
about 1/4 the size.

This post is probably greek to non-Protools users, but I think protools
users will probably appreciate it. My $50 education ought to be good to
go around.
