On my new G4, bouncing a 5-min. stereo mix to disk takes 5 minutes in ProTools
5.1.1. Bouncing that same mix to disk in ProTools 4.3 takes about 30 seconds. In
both cases, I'm using no inserts and bouncing to an interleaved stereo Sound
Designer file without any conversions.

Is it possible you never used ProTools before v5? (I've received multiple
authoritative confirmations that the offending behavior was introduced in v5.)

To bring this thread (somewhat) back on topic, I want to offer kudos to the Coda
team over the past five years or so. Despite what must have been dire
temptations, no upgrade over the last five years has confiscated any major
benefit nor introduced any major performace hits. (Well, I'll kindly overlook
the plugin performance hit introduced in Fin01 because it was fixed in Fin02a.)

The result is that we Finale users are in the rather enviable position of being
able to choose to upgrade without much fear of significant negative
consequences. With many other software packages (Digidesign being one), we are
not nearly so fortunate.
