the duration of any
particular note value remains constant.

Which is why one has to pay careful attention when changing between duple and triple metre, like 2/4 to 6/8, to be sure that what you want actually is what you notated.



Time signature changes have no
effect whatsoever on the duration of notes. Time signatures only group
the notes together, but a different grouping does not change the number
of, say, quarter notes per second.
