Replying to my own post. I think I found a trick: In Page view and from Speedy, every time I want to issue an Update Layout for the current page only I simply flip the page and then flip it back (a swift CTRL PgDn, PgUp). Although the layout is not truely updated in its entirety, it does give me the effect that I immediately want: I can see all the notes in page view instantly (they instantly come back from their greatly distorted spacing way off the page to the right).
Am I risking anything by this? If I use this method for 150 pages of full orchestral score, and then update the layout from the first page when I am finished, do I risk anything? I am avoiding scroll view (with all its advantages which would pertain to this) for other, in this case more important, reasons.
