Robert, I usually agree with a lot of what you say, but I cannot let this go uncommented:

Well, I do agree with this statement to a certain extent, although I sometimes wonder whether some important applications had taken even longer to go OS X if Apple hadn't done this. > OSX still does not have proper MIDI support. OS 9 never had any MIDI support other than the old MIDI manager. Anything that went beyond this was 3rd party. > Major CoreAudio > apps have only just begun to appear this summer. That's simply not true. Bias Peak and TC Works Spark have been around a long time for OS X, Emagic Logic (admittedly now owned by Apple) followed shortly after. Yes, ProTools, DP and Steinberg took a little longer, but they are here. > The postscript driver for OSX > does not include booklet printing as OS9's does. The postscript driver for OS 9 _never_ supported booklet printing. Adobe produced it's own version, which did support booklet printing (though in my case it always messed up the margins). Go complain to Adobe to not provide one, but don't blame it on Apple. > Both Print Manager and Audio Midi Setup are woefully buggy and incomplete. What's screen rotation support got to do with any of this? I sympathize with you in that you probably have one of those monitors that does this, but I think this is probably only relevant to a very minor fraction of OS X users. > > OS9 is far from dead. I have seen several apps which suffered from being carbon. They are slow, sluggish, and compromised. The same happened with Bias Peak which actually was impossible to use on any OS until they separated the two Versions. The latest, Peak 4, is OS X only, and although I haven't got it yet it looks like it really benefits from that decision. In Finale I'd rather have that extra bit of speed in screen redraws than staying OS 9 compatible. And that comes from someone who is still OS 9 95%. Yes there are problems with OS X, and I still haven't found an Email client that I like, but the decision has been made, and for anyone needing the latest versions of any software the time will come to go X. For me it actually means quite an investement, but I don't think there is any reason to complain about MM, and very little to complain about Apple.
