I just can't let this go by. Long dead??!!! Apple went to OSX-only booting fully a
year too soon, and are at least morally guilty of negligence for doing so. OSX still
does not have proper MIDI support. (The current CoreMIDI situation is a [EMAIL
PROTECTED] with respect to device names and patch lists. Try reconciling your devices
between DP4, Protools, and Sibelius.) Major CoreAudio apps have only just begun to
appear this summer. The postscript driver for OSX does not include booklet printing as
OS9's does. Both Print Manager and Audio Midi Setup are woefully buggy and incomplete.
The Finder is still a step backwards from OS9, and OSX has no screen rotation support
nor likely to any time in the foreseeable future.

OS9 is far from dead. On the contrary, right now it's the only thing between me and a
Wintel box.

As for supporting OS8.6, I disagree with MM's decision to abandon it, but since I'm
not personally affected I couldn't scream too loudly. It probably had to do with the
absurdly low open files limit in 8.6, but that's only a guess.

I use approx. 15-yr-old versions of MS Works and MS Word 5.1 in OSX Classic as well as
OS9, no problem. I see no reason to upgrade either one. (More recent versions are/were
larded down with bloatware and featuritis.) I'm not sure why Martin has a problem.
