George,

Creating a reduced size cautionary clef is easy:

- use the Clef tool.
- double click in the measure where you need the clef.
- choose "create a movable mid-measure clef".
- choose "show clef always".
- enter your chosen percentage size for the clef.

For the time signatures, there are different solutions. David Bailey already suggested using shape expressions. If you have a lot of reduced-size time signatures, here's another way you might try. It uses Staff Styles - I usually find that if I have a weird notation problem to solve with Finale, Staff Styles are a good place to start:

- for each staff where you need reduced-size time signatures, create an extra staff just below it.
- reduce the size of the extra staff so that time signatures on it will be at your desired reduction.
- make sure that nothing displays on this staff: in Staff Attributes, de-select all the items to display, de-select "display rests in empty measures" and make the staff zero-line instead of five-line.
- create a staff style called "show time signature", where the only setting you change from the default is to select "time signature" under "items to display".
- create a staff style "hide time signature": here the time signature is DE-selected under "items to display".
- wherever you need a reduced-size time signature, use the "hide time signature" staff style on the original staff and the "show time signature" staff style on the extra staff.
- drag the extra staff so that it coincides with the original one, thus bringing all the reduced-size time signatures onto the correct position on the staff.

NB You can use the same technique to produce extra large time signatures that go over more than one staff.

Best wishes,

Michael Cook

Michael:
Thanks so much for your help. Yes that is correct, only a few items need to
be reduced.
I am working on a voice and piano piece. An occasional time signature (in
both piano and voice parts simultaneously) as well as an occasional
cautionary clef all need to be reduced by roughly 25%.
Thanks again.

George

It's easy to reduce the size of a single accidental: use the
Accidental Mover tool in Special tools. Click on the measure, double
click on the handle of the accidental you want to edit and you'll see
a dialog that permits you to do several things, including resizing the
 accidental.

For clefs and time signatures things are a bit more complex. Richard
Huggins told you how to reduce the size of all clefs (or all time
signatures) in the document, but I understand you just want to change
the size of certain instances of clefs or time signatures. Depending
on exactly what you want to do, there are different tricks: let me
know the exact situation and I can give you a technique to achieve
 what you want.

Best wishes,

Michael Cook

Dear Finale List:

Is it possible to reduce the size of individual clefs, time signatures
and accidentals?
I didn't see anything in the manual other than note, staff and page
reductions, or reductions on a global scale.
As always, thanks for your great help.
