I just tried this out: the non-breaking space left enough room to put in a time signature at 75%.

Not sure why it has to be the non-breaking space. Seems to me that a normal space works just as well there.

Another scheme I sometimes use to trick Finale into giving me more space in a particular place is a blank articulation. Just create an articulation defined as a space, and enter some number in the H value under Handle Positioning. Make sure that Articulations is selected in your Music Spacing Options, and attach the new articulation onto a note anywhere you need more space. You can adjust how much space you get by changing the H handle positioning value (positive for right of the note, negative for left of the note).

I suppose you could do the same thing with a blank note expression, or even chord or lyric. I'm not sure why I picked articulations. Maybe because my ordinary articulations rarely make much different to music spacing, maybe because invisible articulations are easier for me to keep track of than invisible something else.

If you're someone who never does real lyrics, maybe an invisible lyric would be easier. Just use type-in-score to attach a hard-space to any note, then use Adjust Syllables to drag it as far as you like to either side. And keep Lyrics checked in your Music Spacing Options.
