I forgot to clarify a detail in my last message.

When you turn *off* "Smoothing" in Sibelius 3, I think what is happening is that Sibelius *stops* using graphics card-assisted drawing and switches to the regular, CPU-based drawing used by Finale (and previous versions of Sibelius). That's why everything is slower. Turning it on again re-enables graphics-card assisted drawing. (Technically, what "Smoothing" does is turn on OpenGL. At least, that's if my theory is correct).
