But then I have to turn off playback for the notes in the display
layer. Right now, my non-playback layer is 4 and everything in layers
1-3 plays back. If I'm putting notes in layers 1-3 that are for
display only, I have to set key velocity to 0 or turn off playback in
the Edit Frame dialog.

Or, I can allocate another layer, leaving me with only 2 layers for
voices.

I'm glad it's all confirmed, and is not just some crazy artifact of
my long-term conversions.

I'm now discovering the "joys" of updating my old files to use
current Finale settings (like ties and beams, which are *vastly*
improved over the old days). But the problem is that I have font
issues -- some of my files use the Engraver font and the Document
Options settings saved from the Maestro default template don't look
exactly right. I really like the look of Maestro Wide, especially for
passages with lots of short notes (it looks splendid in slow
movements with lots of ornamental notes), and I'd like to convert
everything, but with my spacing problems and the issues of importing
the settings, I'm not finding that to be viable for now.

Any hints on converting Engraver files to Maestro Wide?

Is there an independent spacing library that needs to be imported
separate from the Document Options library?

This is another area where I think Finale is horridly messed up, in
the way libraries work. I shouldn't have to create files just for the
purpose of loading libraries into them just so I can then save them
out to a library file for loading into other files.

Is there an easier way?
