Greetings List,

I am in the process of putting together a new Mac based system. I'm currently
working on an 867 Mhz G4 running FinMAC 2002/2003 with OS 9.2.2. With this rig,
I am able to work very quickly. However, I would like to take advantage of the
faster processor horsepower that is now available. I would also like to switch
over my MIDI playback rig from a fairly ancient set of modules and keyboard to a
soft synth based setup that can operate inside the same CPU that will be running
Finale.

With all of the "not ready for prime time" buzz about Finale 2004 (or '04b), I'm
avoiding the G5 and considering the purchase of a dual-bootable G4 with the
fastest processor and as much RAM as my budget line can handle.
It would be nice to get a G5, but the OS X dependence eliminates the "dual boot"
option.
With a fast G4, I hope to stay productive with FinMAC 2002/2003 in OS 9 and then
upgrade to Finale 2004c (or more likely Finale 2005!), once "paid beta testing"
is complete. :)

I'm also thinking of using Reason 2.5 as my primary virtual sampler rack. I
haven't worked with it, but I understand that it's fairly easy to get Reason and
Finale to talk to each other. I'd like to consider the new Garritan Personal
Orchestra, but I believe that is OS X dependent as well.

So...

1.) Is anybody doing fairly large projects (e.g., studio orchestra, symphony
orchestra, wind ensemble, big band, etc.) with any degree of success in Finale
2004b?

2.) Any tips on good, solid, flat screen monitors (17" minimum) at a good price?

2.) Any comments on the possible system set-up listed above would be most
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Eric Richards
