Hello all,
One of my students posed a question to me today that I had never considered with Finale. How does one handle an instrument double. The example he had involved an arrangement that has a sax part that keeps changing between Soprano, Tenor and Alto. How does he put an instrument change in a Finale score?
[My suggestion was to create separate parts for the instruments in the score and then assemble a part after extraction, but that seems somewhat painful]

And unnecessary!

Any interesting suggestions?

Yes. Use staff styles. Set up a staff style for each instrument the player will need during the arrangement. Make sure they have the full and abbreviated staff names and the transposition set correctly. (Finale default documents have some common staff styles already set up for you, so depending what your student started from he may or may not be able to skip this step.)

Then all you have to do is use the Staff Tool to select the measures during which the player is playing soprano sax, then apply the Soprano Sax staff style. Same goes for the other saxophones (or any other doubling instrument).
