Procedure: Make sure you have all of the instruments you'll be using in the piece included when you do the Set-Up.
Write the Piece.
Create Expressions: "Change to Trumpet" or "Change to Trombone" or whatever, and plug them in as necessary
Is there a way to configure an expression to invoke a staff style, so that when I use the expression "to bari sax," the transposition is automatically done (without going to the staff tool & changing the staff style)?
Not that I know of, and I'm not sure I WOULD like that feature. Usually I would write "To bari sax" well ahead of the passage, and only invoke the new transposition on the first measure that the bari plays, along with a new expression "(Bari)" in parentheses or "On bari". This is the standard way to do it (inasmuch as most jazz notation could be called "standard") and more importantly, it's what the players around here expect to see. I'm sure I would get questions about keys, etc., if I changed the key way ahead of time.
If you assign your Staff Style to a metatool, it is only one keystroke away in any case, so I'm not sure you would get that much savings in time out of your proposal.
