Sorry to reply again, but this seems to me to be something that's in
the cross-platform code of Finale, as the same problem exists in the
Windows version.

It has happened so infrequently to me that I can't explain when or
how, but this is pre-Finale 2004, which I don't use.

There is also an ongoing problem with the multi-document interface
implementation (I experienced this in WinFin97, too), where the first
window opened does not have its own minimize/mediumize/close buttons
in the corner of the child window when a second window is opened.
That is, there shouldn't be a set of the three controls in the upper
right until you open a second document, but when that is the case,
they should appear. And they don't always do so. And sometimes, you
cannot close that document by any means, except closing Finale.
Sometimes you can close it with Ctrl-W but not via File | Close.

This won't translate directly on the Mac, as the MDI doesn't really
exist there, but perhaps this is a set of related issues, having to
do with the way temporary files are used, and the way the connections
between the display in the application windows is correlated with the
underlying temp data.
