Marcello asked:

Question: I have a main score; I would want to extract two parts from
it in a single score (let's say trumpet + bass), in order to let bass
know what trumpet is playing.

Can I do that directly from the main score or have I to create a
separate score where I delete all staves but those ones I want to get
"joined"?

to which I responded:

You can do it either way, either by selecting the staves you want to
extract into the part, on the one hand, or by deleting all of the
extraneous staves of the other parts from a copy of the score, on the other.

to which Marcello replied

Thank you for reply, I'm afraid I was not clear in my question.

To the contrary, Marcello, you were clear in your question; I was unclear in my answer.

I sense that what you want is a kind of "grand staff" for the bass player, in which the upper staff contains the trumpet part, to be used as cues by bassist. One way of doing this is to select "extract parts" from the file menu, which opens a dialog box in which you can select the staves to be extracted into a particular part. To extract a part containing two staves, simply extract a part in which only those two staves are highlighted in the "staves" section of the dialog box. You can also define the two staves you want as a group, and highlight the group in the "groups" section of the dialog box. This will give you one part, consisting of two staves, one the trumpet part, one the bass part.

Alternatively, you can make a copy of the file, and delete all but the trumpet and bass staff, and achieve a similar effect, except that if you had groups defined of which either the trumpet or bass were part, the groups will still be defined, and may affect the way the part appears.

Finally, it occurs to me that there is a third method, which has similar results to the second: define a staff style to hide an entire staff, and apply this style to all but the trumpet and bass parts.

Each of these procedures should give you one part, consisting of two staves, one for trumpet, one for bass.
