I'm reassured that 'modern beaming' is acceptable - anything else in this piece would be a nightmare (it's music vaguely of the Xenakis/Ferneyhough/Dillon soundworld...). Likewise, I'd have never contemplated *not* spacing it according to note durations.
One other question - where a dynamic affects a whole SATB grouping (singing in rhythmic unison), is it acceptable/appropriate to place the dynamic above the stave in question, rather than each individual system?
Always place dynamics for each staff, as they may have different dynamics, even when singing a rhythmic unison. This is common practice.
Split sections may even have different dynamics for the top split and the bottom split. This gets complicated to notate, and I would rather divide the staff into two staves if this occurs in my music.
