I just met the composer at lunch time and got the second half of the manuscript, which includes Violin I and Violin II parts. I will end up choosing Andrew and Ryan suggestions, which meet my own ideas on the subject. I wanted the voices over the piano for rehearsal convenience and had a problem with the idea of having the instruments here and there as an orchestral setup would suggest.

ob, vc, soloists, chorus, piano. The suggestion from someone else that the cello should be below the chorus is incorrect when the accompaniment is a chamber combination, and would be very old-fashioned even if there were an orchestra.
