Many thanks to all for a lot of interesting information about this show. As far as I can tell, the parts for "Crazy" were very carefully done: the set we received still had the pencil markings from another production, but there were only a handful of notes that had been corrected. Maybe more errors will become evident during the orchestra rehearsals, but I'm hoping that the search for wrong notes won't use up so much rehearsal time as it did with some other musicals ("Evita", for instance).

I'm really looking forward to doing this piece in Mannheim. The orchestra here is full of fabulous musicians, but they're more used to playing Wagner than Gershwin - they can play "Tristan" or "Tannhuser" at the drop of a hat and a lot of them also play in Bayreuth. They're very versatile, though, and with a little help they can be at home in almost any style. And all the better if it's technically demanding: that just adds to the fun. As for the pianist, I have no worries. He'd play the whole of the Concerto in F if I let him!

Best wishes,

Michael Cook
