If you're new music notation specialists, why are you trying to use antiquated computer hardware and an antiquated operating system to do your work?
check out the following and tell me if you think an "antiquated computer hardware and an antiquated operating system" has affected the quality of output:

the simple fact is that we were told F2k4 would work on OS9. until i discovered this was a less-than-half truth, i didn't need OSX. the only reason i now need 2004 (over 2003) is that i consider typographical considerations to be as essential as the music notation to the presentation of any score, and 2004 has impressive improvements regarding text control that i have been waiting years for. i prefer to upgrade programmes and OS's out of need and choice, rather than trends and market pressure.
