to which I might note that after the tutorial, the first lesson I learned in Finale is not to do anything with a file--playback, copy, &c.--until it has been saved first. I did lose work (which all in all is a good thing; knowing what I know now, I'd have had to redo it all anyway) but have not lost any since.
