I don't know how I missed that! I think I misinterpreted the dialog, assuming that the dropdown list at the top (which in my Finale defaults to "Octave Up (8va)") defined what the settings in that dialog applied to. Apparently this is not the case. It's a very badly designed dialog, in my opinion -- it's very hard to understand what applies to what.
