Thank you very much for discovering this! I found as well that the updater had for some reason known only to the programers at MakeMusic created a C:\Program Files\Component Files folder, even though the updater program clearly knew where my Finale installation was, since it didn't ask me where my Finale2005.exe was located.
You just saved me a lot of frustration.
I did, however, e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] to ask how I could update the hp.dll file without deleting and reinstalling Finale2005.exe.
I will be interested to see if they are as smart as you!
I simply copied all the files in the wayward c:\program files\component files into the c:\Finale2005\Component Files and selected to overwrite what was already there with the newer versions.
It will indeed be interesting to see what they say!

Of course you're confused - MM has made everything to confuse us here!
There was a bug in the initial 2005a updater resulting in HP (and I think als ApplyHP) not being updated. MM found out after a day or so and replaced the installer with a new one - with the same name and _almost_ identical file size.
An easy way to see if you have the 2005a HP update is to look in the Components Folder for Finale 2005 - if the file date for HP.DLL is something in July 2004 it hasn't been updated. The 2005a updated should have a date of November 04, 2004.
Unfortunatelly, it's not that easy to correct if you installed with the first version of the Fin2005a updater. I did like this in Windows (to avoid an uninstall but get the new updater to work anyway):
1. Deleted FINALE.EXE from the Finale 2005 main folder
2. Installed Finale 2005, initial release from the original CD to the same location as before
3. Ran the new updater file (FinWin2k5aUpdate.exe should be exactly 6,647,831 bytes)
