I studied composition with John Eaton at Indiana University. One day I discovered an LP from the early 60s with his picture on it. He was playing piano. The band was called Johnny Eaton and the Eatonians. They played a Brubeck style of jazz. When I told Eaton about my find, he may not have been amused. Until then, we all knew him as an electronic music, microtonal, extended technique, opera composer.
There is another piano playing John Eaton who sounds nothing like the composer I studied with. People keep sending me his CDs without realizing the mistake.
