Hi Chuck,
Are you sure? I just had a situation where I inadvertently launched Fin2005 instead of Fin2005a, and Fin2005 was unable to read the Fin2005a prefs, and so simply replaced them with the default prefs. So when I quit Fin2005 and launched Fin2005a, I found that my prefs had been overwritten and -- since I didn't have the prefs backed up -- I had to recreate them from scratch.
If you are somehow able to get Fin2005 and Fin2005a to either (A) share a single set of prefs, or (B) maintain completely separate prefs [without putting the apps in separate folders], I'd certainly be interested in knowing how!
Cheers,

Actually, I think Finale now does this, doesn't it? Although it probably doesn't for intermediate updates (ie 2k5 and 2k5a probably share the same pref file).

In my experience, this is correct - same preference file for 2k5 and 2k5a; a small, but not unappreciated convenience.
