what is the cutoff age for "young" these days?

55 years 11 months 9 days. So I'm still young until tomorrow.

At which time the cutoff point will undoubtedly move up another day. 8-)

Funny this comes up like this; I had no problems at all turning 40 - it was 35 I had problems with. Why, you may ask? It's because all the young composers contests have cutoff ages of 35; after that, you are expected to be a full professional, able to compete in the real world with Xenakis and his heavy-hitting ilk who win all the REAL composition contests with $10k+ prizes. Not surprisingly, I have neither won nor placed in one contest since I turned 35, not even the ones with $300 prizes.
