From what Darcy says, the replacement of AppleWorks supports PDFs no problem. AppleWorks6 dates back to when OSX first came out, so the fact that they can be imported at all is surprising.

I guess I will be looking into replacing my venerable AppleWorks. I kinda liked it; so I hope they haven't screwed it up too much.

Pages is *very* different from AppleWorks. It's much more of an entry-level desktop publishing app than a word processing app. I like it a lot, but coming from AppleWorks (or Word), there's definitely a significant learning curve to be overcome, and you will have to adjust your workflow.

I think this is very much the wave of the future, and a smart move on Apple's part -- the distinction between "word processing" and "desktop publishing" has become pretty arbitrary, and after getting used to Pages, dedicated word processors like Word, AppleWorks etc., feel really clumsy and underpowered. But it definitely takes some getting used to.
