Well, I got an education this afternoon trying to find a free WAV to
MP3 converter.

I downloaded about 6 different ones, some shareware, some freeware.

In the process, the installers put in place any amount of adware and
spyware. It was ridiculous.

Does anyone have recommendations on a Windows WAV to MP3 converter
that has a decent interface, produces non-corrupt results with good
quality (they all seemed to use the LAME compression library, but the
sound of the result was not uniformly good from all of the ones I
tried).

The one I liked best couldn't produce a non-corrupt MP3 file -- all
files converted with screwed up time tracks (e.g., a 3:13 WAV would
be converted to a 3:26 MP3) and ended with the last 10 seconds or so
cut off.

The one that produced the best results and had a reasonable user
interface is limited to 30 conversions. A nicer version of the same
program with some added features was limited to 10 conversions. If
I'm going to spend $20 on one of these, I'd like to know I'm not
going to do any better.

As of now, though, I'd be delighted to find something better than any
of these, none of which impressed me in the slightest. Where do these
people get their ideas about good UI design? Clearly not from
observing how other easy-to-use programs are designed!
