Back in the Randy Stokes days, we had somebody like that, but who
also was one of the programmers and could give technical explanations
for problems. Boy, but I do miss Randy. Having him around really
increased my confidence in Finale.
And it seems that back in the days when he worked for Coda was the
period of the greatest improvement for Finale. Since his departure,
not much has happened to Finale except the bundling of more and more
bells and whistles, with the reworking of only a couple major
engraving problems.
Wow, I don't know whether to take that as compliment or a whack (around here
we call it a "corn dog", like "you don't look nearly as fat in that dress").
Anyway, I'm still around -- can't get rid of the log that has nearly crusted
itself to the ground. I've been in deep lurk mode for much of the last year,
as I was finding the volume on the list completely overwhelming. At one time
I had 17,000 unread messages, and pack rat that I am, I still have a huge
number. But there is no better treasure trove of user knowledge,
suggestions, design ideas, etc.
I have spent much of that time deep within the bowels of Finale. So you
don't always see much of my work on the surface, but Finale is faster and
more stable as a result of it. Much of this will provide a foundation for
future growth. Things coming down the pike like Mac/Intel and Longhorn are
going to require considerable work for software vendors even if it doesn't
result in immediately obvious "features". I hope the user community is
prepared for that.
I did do repeats last year, and expressions the year before, though, so I
still get the chance to absorb user input and try to please everyone (yeah,
I know -- it's a character flaw).
I now return to my cave. If you peer closely into the dark you may see my
eerily shining eyes, but not much else.
Randy
